About us
The Hong Kong WTO Research Institute is a non-profit organization registered in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. It was inaugurated on May 7, 2001. The establishment and operations of the Institute have been strongly supported by warm-hearted personalities from different walks of life in Hong Kong as well as authoritative experts around the world. They have contributed much time and expertise to the Institute.
China's accession to the WTO significantly impacts Hong Kong, the Mainland of China and the international economic, trade, political and social relationship. In view of this, the Institute sets its mission as to study the WTO and the changes caused by China's accession, to enhance public awareness of the WTO and to promote cross-border academic and professional exchanges.
The Hong Kong WTO Research Institute has a group of Hong Kong based outstanding research fellows from all over the world. It also has a group of leading WTO specialist as advisors, including former GATT/WTO officials, former high governmental officials of different countries, renowned professors and lawyers and managers of transnational companies who are involved in WTO dispute settlement. While setting the root in Hong Kong, it has been the key function of the Institute to facilitate the interactions between Hong Kong and the Mainland of China under the framework of WTO and promote the recognition of various potentials of Hong Kong and the Mainland of China in the rest of the world.
Since its establishment, the Institute has been engaged in publishing a series of academic papers. It has also provided several rounds of WTO training to officials, judges and professionals and successfully hosted several high-level international conferences in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing.
