International Conference

WTO is a global issue. Therefore, to promote public awareness of WTO matters should not be confined to a single country or region and academic and professional exchanges must be cross-border. In view of this, Hong Kong WTO Research Institute has organized several international conferences in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. The Institute is also planning to host academic exchanges in the United States and Europe.

Thus far, Hong Kong WTO Research Institute has hosted or co-hosted a series of international conferences including "Round Table Discussion on China's Accession to the WTO" with WTO Shanghai Research Centre in Shanghai, "The Road of Free Trade after Doha" in Hong Kong, "International Conference on WTO Rules" with Shenzhen University in Shenzhen and "Law and Globalization - Theory of Practice" with Peking University in Beijing.

Many renowned WTO specialists such as Mr. Karl Friedrich Falkenberg (Senior Negotiator of European Commission), Professor Mitsuo Matsushita (Former Member of Appellate Body of WTO), Justice Florentino Feliciano (Former Member of Appellate Body of WTO) and Mr. Tong Zhiguang (Former Chief Negotiator for China's Resumption into the GATT), presented their papers in conferences organized by the Institute. With support from the leading specialists, conferences organized by the Institute are prestigious and influential. Some articles presented at or submitted to the conferences have been published by the China Publishing House of Law under the title "WTO and China: The Road of Free Trade".
